EU Trade Commissioner calls India deal a geopolitical game changer

EU Trade Commissioner calls India deal a geopolitical game changer
    Areeb Khan

China, US or European Union ke between jo geopolitical scene chal raha hai, usko dekhte hue EUne thoda different route lene ka decision liya hai. Donald Trump ke saath tariff war start karne ke instead, jo abhi Greenland pe hi atka hua hai jab tak uska mood an change ho, Brussels ne India ke saath deal final kar li hai. And yes, ismein automotive sector ka kaafi big role hai.

Is agreement se tariffs reduce ho jaayenge, jisse European manufacturers India ko easily export kar paayenge or unhe every year approx. €4 billion ki big saving hogi. Jaise hi ye deal implement hoti hai, Europe ke liye international trade mein ek new era start ho sakta hai.

Understanding between the European Union and India

Stephane Sejourne, jo European Commissioner or Executive Vice President (Prosperity & Industrial Strategy) hai, unke according ye agreement Europe se India vehicles export karne ke liye kaafi beneficial hoga. Isme complete ready cars ke saath saath kits export karna bhi include hai. China bhi yeh same strategy use karta aaya hai, apni electric cars par lagne wale tariffs se save karne ke liye unhe different countries, jaise Spain, ke factories mein assemble karke.

"Ye EU or India ke between ek historic agreement hai jo bas final hone wala hai. Is new deal se hum apne markets diversify kar paayenge, US or China par dependency reduce hogi, or hamari companies ke liye growth ka ek new phase start hoga," Sejourne ne kaha.

Tariffs categorized into 3 pricing tiers

Basically, baat ho rahi hai custom duty reduce karne ki, around 2.5 lakh imported cars ke liye. Other than this 75,000 cars jo kit form mein aayengi (jaise CKD, DKD, etc.), unpe bhi extra duty reduction milega.

Iska most of the impact luxury cars mein dikhega, jo BMW or Mercedes-Benz jaise brands ke liye kaafi good news hai. But sirf luxury hi nahi, India mainstream carmakers ke liye bhi kaafi attractive market ban raha hai.

Ab tak jo luxury cars (Rs. 50,000 euro se above wali) India import hoti thi, unpe 110%duty lagti thi. Ab wo kaafi reduce hoke 30% ho jaayegi. Rs. 35,000 se Rs. 50,000 euro ke between wali cars pe bhi 30% duty lagegi. Bas condition ye hai ki dono categories mila ke year mein around 33,000 cars tak hi ye benefit milega.

An initiative to enhance luxury exports

€15,000 se €35,000 price wale vehicles pe 35% ka tariff lagega, or ye limit hogi 34,000 units per year.

Next 10 years mein, 3 categories ko joint karke total cap increase ho kar 160,000 units per year kar diya jayega.

Isse luxury car exports ko kaafi boost milega, because abhi India mein luxury cars ka share 1% se bhi less hai, whereas every year around 44 lakh new vehicles register hote hai.

Simple words mein kehein so around 2 billion people ka ek free trade area banega, custom duty 90% tak reduce ho jaayegi, or EU ke exports India ke liye double se bhi zyada increase ho sakte hai. Isse EU exporters ko every year around €4 billion ka benefit hoga tariff savings mein.

Sejourne ne add kiya ki Europe ko independent rehne ke liye strong or fair partnerships chahiye, jismein both of the sides ki industries ko equal benefit mile.

Haan, electric cars ke tariffs mein improvement hoga, but abhi immediately nahi. Agreement implement hone ke 5 years after changes start honge. Us time European electric cars ke 20,000 units ke liye tariffs 30-35% tak reduce ho jayenge.

Uske 5 years after, tariffs or reduce ho kar 10% ho jayenge, or import limit bhi increase ho kar 90,000cars per year ho jaayegi.

But ek important baat hai, ye price cuts sirf un electric cars pe lagenge jo €20,000 (21.87 lakh) se upper priced hai. India mein jo zyada affordable EVs hai, wo abhi bhi Tata or Mahindra jaise local manufacturers ke hi paas rahengi. Isse country ke 2 major auto players ko kaafi protection mil jaata hai.

Additional lowered tariffs between the EU and India

Other side, sirf automotive sector hi nahi, rather or bhi industries, jaise agri food sector, ko is agreement ka benefit milega. Wine par jo 150% tariff tha, wo ab kaafi reduce hoke 20-30 ho jayega. Spirits par 150% se 40% tak aa jayega, or beer ka tariff 110% se 50% ho jayega. Olive oil bilkul tariff free hoga.

Saath hi, pasta or chocolate jaise derived products, jin par pehle 50% duty lagti thi, ab un par bhi koi tariff nahi lagega.
