Rural India Drives Vehicle Sales Growth After GST Cuts

Iss baar festive season mein vehicles ki sales ka real boost India ke rural areas se aaya hai. Achhe barrish ne consumers ki income increase ho gayi hai, or GST rate cut ke baad small cars (jo aksar family ki first 4-wheeler hoti hai) phir se buyers ke liye kaafi attractive ban gayi hai. SIAM ke president Shailesh Chandra ne kaha ki rural areas mein strong growth ke signs mill rahe hai-Iss saal best monsoon or upcoming shaadi season ki wajah se.

SIAM ke data ke according, September mein passenger vehicle dispatch rate 4.4% increase hua, total  3,72,458 units. Two wheeler mein 6.7% increase hokar

21,60,889 units tak paunch gaya, or three-wheeler bhi 5.5% upar gaya, 84,077 units tak. SIAM president ne kaha ki festive season jaldi start hona (Navratri September mein hi start ho gayi thi) or recent GST rate cuts ka early impact milne se approx sabhi vehicle categories mein growth dekhne ko milli. Har category, passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, or three-wheelers, ke dispatches factory se showroom tak record high rahe last month. Jab president se question hua ki kya GST bonanza se small cars ka share festive season increase hua, toh unhone reply mein kaha ki "yeh toh time hi batayega."

Unhone yeh bhi kaha ki government ke GST rate cut ka asli impact vehicle sales mein next month se dikhna shuru hoga. "See, GDP growth or vehicle sales growth ka direct connection hota hai. Suppose GST cuts se overall GDP grow karti hai, toh passenger vehicle sales bhi gradually grow karenge. Normally, PV sales GDP growth se 1.1-1.2 times zyada grow karti hai.

September passenger vehicle dispatches 4.4% year on year ke percent se increase hue, but financial year ke first 6 months mein category abhi bhi thodi negative hai, around 1.4%. Two-wheeler sales September mein 6.7% tak jump ki, par April se September tak overall dispatches almost flat rahe, sirf 0.7% ka increase hua.

It remains to be seen whether the momentum that existed in September will continue, woh financial year ke second half tak stand out karta hai ya nahi. December tak zyada idea mil jayega, tab tak GST cuts ka effects, delivery delays wali small problems, or shaadi season ki buying trend sab samne aa jaayenge.

    Rural also excels in retail

Saharash Damani, jo FADA (Federation of automobile dealers) ke CEO hai, unhone bataya ki September mein overall car sales toh growth hui hai, but "urban area ka contribution 62% se down ho kar 60% ho gaya hai, or rural share 38% se increase ho kar 40% ho gaya hai.

Matlab simple words mein, har 10 cars mein 4 rural India ke showroom se sale ho rahi hai.

Saharash ne FADA ke data ko mention karte hue kaha ki rural car sales ne urban markets ke comparision mein 4x faster growth hui September mein. "Rural PV sales 11% YoY rate grow hui hai, whereas urban markets mein sirf 2.6% growth hui".

Unke words yeh sirf growth nahi hai, rather India ke auto demand map ka ek structural rebalance hai, jahan rural India ab new demand or aspiration ka powerhouse ban raha hai".

Puneet Gupta, jo S&P Global ke director hai (India & ASEAN automotive market), unhone bataya ki price sensitivity zyada rural buyers ke liye hoti hai. GST cuts ne mini car segment ko ek accha boost diya hai. FADA ke data ke according, September mein urban markets mein PV (Passenger Vehicle) sales approx. 10% down ho gaye August ke comparison mein, whereas rural areas mein decline sirf 3% raha.

    Puzzle for the second quarter

SIAM ke dispatch data ke according, iss saal july se September ke around two-wheeler ki sales 7.4% increase ho kar 5.56 million units tak pahunch gayi. Wahin PVs (Passenger vehicles) ki dispatch thodi si gir gayi, approx. 1.5% kam hokar 1.04 million units par aa gayi. Commercial vehicles ne 8.3% ka growth dekhi gayi (240,000 units tak), or three wheeler bhi 9.8% grow karke 229,000 units tak pahunch gayi.

PVs ke under, utility vehicles (UV) segment abhi bhi dominate kar raha hai, but quarter sales 2.1% se thodi down ho gayi. Chandra ne isse "flat" growth bataya, means koi big change nahi or kaha ki 'SUVisation' ya passenger car market ke premium trend me koi reversal nahi hua hai. Unke according UV numbers bas market ke stabilize hone ka sign hai. Sirf UVs hi nahi, hatchbacks ka share bhi ab stable ho raha hai. Ab UV segment mein new launches ka phase end ho gaya hai, toh ab yeh overall PV market ke growth rate ko follow karega.
