Toyota switches leadership amid industry challenges
    Areeb Khan

Toyota Motor Corporation ne recently apni leadership team mein ek big change announce kiya hai. Koji Sato, jo Akoi Toyoda se CEO ka role leke aaye the (Aur Akoi Toyoda abhi bhi chairman hai, or kabhi kabhi Morizo san ban kar bhi active rehte hai), wo March ke end tak step down karne wale hai. New CEO 1 April se appoint ho jaayege.

Ye new CEO Kenta Kon hoga, jo ab tak Japanese company mein Chief Financial Officer (CFO) ke position par tha.

Simple words mein bolein toh, Toyota pehle ek car enthusiast CEO ke under thi, phir ek or car lover jiska engineering background tha, or ab company ka lead ek finance enthusiast ke paas jaa raha hai.

Aur interesting baat ye hai ki jitna different lagta hai, utna actually hai nahi, inmein kaafi similarities bhi hai jo pehle highlight mein maybe show nahi hui.

Toyota's next CEO will start in April

Kenta Kon ab CEO, President or Board of Directors ke member honge, or board ko Toyoda chair karenge.

Sato ab Vice President banenge or brand ke industry division ke head honge, ye position pehle exist hi nahi karti thi.

Aur Yoichi Miyazaki Toyota ke new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) honge, jo Kon ko replace karenge.

Ye koi simple corporate restructuring nahi hai, ye actually Japanese industry ka ek large part hai jo in future changing times ke liye khud ko adapt kar rahe hai.

Aur ye forget mat karo ki Toyota ke paas Subaru, Mazda, Isuzu, Daihatsu or Suzuki jaise brands mein shares bhi hai.

Or this year January se, Sato Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) ke president hai, or May 2025 se wo Keidanren (Japanese business federation) ke vice president bhi hai.

    Times of transition lay ahead

With Sato ke saath, brand ne kaafi versatile approach adopt ki hai, matlab wo sirf petrol/diesel cars hi nahi, rather simple hybrid models bhi offer kar rahe hai. Isi wajah se wo global models ke saath world ke 30 se zyada countries ke national markets mein strong position bana chuke hai.

Electric vehicles ke case mein bhi inka approach thoda slow raha, but end mein zyada successful or realistic prove hua. Whereas baaki other manufacturers fastly EV market mein enter ho rahe the, baad mein unhe back foot par aana pada or millions of dollars ke adjustments karne pade.

Appointment ke baad wali press conference mein Toyota ne bola ki wo industrial collaboration initiatives par work karegi so that apni international competitiveness or strong ho sake.

Jaise ki world ki most biggest automaker company (2025 mein 11.3 million cars sell ki, or Volkswagen group se apni lead or increase kar li) ko abhi iski need ho.

But honestly, top par bane rehne ke liye ye sab karna padta hai, especially jab automotive industry mein itni uncertainty chal rahi ho.

Prevention in the face of all that will change in the sector

Kuch log is move ko China ke continuous aggressive expansion ke against ek precaution maante hai. Abhi Japan mein uski presence zyada strong nahi hai, or Europe mein bhi, Spain mein strong hone ke baad bhi, uske saare brands ka combined market share around 5% ke approx. hai, jo Renault Group ka half se bhi less hai, for example.

But isse uski importance kam nahi ho jaati, because uske paas strong technological advantages hai or key materials tak access bhi hai.

Kon ne recent time mein Toyota ko billions save karne mein kaafi important role play kiya hai. Isme US mein Trump administration ke tariffs ka issue handle karna or supply chain ke disruptions ko manage karna bhi included tha.

Other challenges mein sirf EV sales increase karna hi nahi (2025 mein unhone around 2 lakh BEVs sell ki, whereas 44 lakh hybrids sell kiye), rather autonomous driving technology ko develop karna bhi ek big focus hai.

Akio's son emerged as a future candidate

So basically, Toyota ka current finance chief, jo kaafi car lover (jaise woh mid engined Kei Van jo Toyoda ne last January Tokyo Auto Salon mein GR Yaris Morizo RR reveal karne se pehle showcase ki thi), usne ye expect kiya ja raha hai ki in the coming years jo bhi challenges aayenge, unmein company ka har last yen tak squeez karwa dein. Entire company mein reform dekhne ko mil sakte hai, or unke supplier network mein bhi changes hone wale hai.

Other side, ye bhi speculation chal rahi hai ki maybe ye move Daisuke Toyoda, jo Akoi ke son hai,  usko dekha ja raha hai as a future of the pillar this company.

Abhi wo 37 years ke hai or Toyota ke software or mobility division ke vice president hai, jiska name hai Woven by Toyota. Ye department apna software platform in-house develop karte time setbacks face kar chuka hai.

Daisuke ne 2016 mein Toyota join ki thi, or ab wo Akoi ko 'Morizo' ke role mein succeed karne ke liye ready mana ja raha hai, driving skills mein toh wo apne father se bhi ahead bataye ja rahe hai.
