    BMW 1500 Turns 65: The car that rescued BMW from collapse

    Introduced in 1961, the BMW 1500 and the Neue Klasse line transformed the brand's fortunes and laid the foundation for decades of success.

    1961 mein Frankfurt Motor show ke time BMW ke liye sab kuch change ho gaya. Yahin par brand ne apni first "Neue Klasse" car introduce ki, jiska matlab hota hai "New Class" Us time obviously isse bas BMW 1500 ke name se hi jaana jaata tha. "New Class" wala term BMW ne apni advertising mein 1964 ke baad use karna start kiya.


    But name jo bhi ho, BMW 1500 (or baad mein aayi other Neue Klasse cars) BMW ke liye game changer ban gayi. Isne brand ko almost khatam hone se wapas stand kiya or aisi cars ki foundation rakhi jiska match coming decades tak koi or automaker nahi kar paaya. Aur iska impact aaj bhi feel hota hai, 65 years after.

Difference understand karna ho toh BMW 507 ko yaad karo or phir BMW 1500 ko dekho. Grille mein thodi si similarity side karke, almost kuch bhi nahi lagta ki both of these is same brand cars.


    And yes, fun fact, BMW 507 ka production sirf 2 years pehle hi end kar diya tha, uske baad hi BMW 1500 launch hui.


    BMW 1500 ko critics or buyer dono ne kaafi pasand kiya, critically bhi hit tha or commercially bhi. 1963 tak aate-aate BMW phir se apne shareholders ko dividends dene laga, jo past 20 years se possible nahi ho paaya tha.


    Jaise jaise Neue Klasse ki success clearly dikhne lagi, BMW ne uska full benefit gain karna start kar diya. BMW 1500 ke baad 1800 introduce hui, jismein BMW ka early "modern" engine tha, M10 four-cylinder. Phir 1964 mein 1600 model launch hua, or uske thode time baad BMW 02 Series bhi aa gayi.


    1960 se 1970 ke between 10 years mein BMW ki sales 3x ho gayi, or revenue toh seven times se bhi zyada grow ho gaya.


    BMW 1500: 65 years later


    BMW 1500 kabhi bhi collectors ke market mein crazy premium pe nahi sell hoti. But agar dekha jaye, then aaj bhi BMW ki kaafi "original Neue Klasse" wali DNA alive hai.


    Haan, iX3 or uske jaise models dekh ke yeh nahi lagta ki unka koi direct connection hai us old car se, boxy functional 1500 se. And by the way BMW nowdays kisi crisis mein nahi hai. Phir bhi , jo ideological shift BMW (or complete auto industry) abhi face kar rahi hai, uske baare mein kaafi kuch bola ja sakta hai. 


    Remember that "Neue Klasse" name aaya kaise tha. BMW Group Classic ke press spokesman Marc Thiesburger ne kaha tha, "humara believe tha ki humne ek bilkul unique or peerless 'new class' create ki hai."


    And now the question is, ye jo New New Class aa rahi hai, kya wo utni hi iconic ban paayegi? Kya 2090 mein koi ise yaad rakhega? To be honest.... ye sirf time hi batayega.
