    Ford CEO says sedans were cut because they couldn't be made profitably

    Jim Farley insists the sedan market is still active, but Ford couldn't compete financially, though a future return isn't ruled out.

    Ford ne US mein 2020 se koi sedan sell hi nahi ki. Fusion discontinue hone ke baad, or usse one year pehle hi bigger Taurus bhi discontinue ho gaya tha. Fiesta or Focus jaise kaafi popular models bhi retire kar diye gaye, so ab apart from Mustang Ford ke lineup mein koi proper traditional car available hi nahi hai.


    Automotive News ko diye gaye ek interview mein, CEO Jim Farley ne bataya ki Ford ne sedan segment se exit hone ka decision kyun liya. Unka kehna tha ki ye step demand lack of demand ki wajah se nahi liya tha, rather isliye tha because company us segment mein profitable ways se compete nahi kar ra rahi thi.


    Sedan market kaafi zyada vibrant hai. Aisa nahi hai ki market hi nahi hai. Bas hum abhi tak koi aisa method nahi find kar pa rahe hai jahan hum compete bhi kar sakein or profit bhi earn kar sakein. Par ho sakta hai future mein hum iska solution find kar lein.


    Ford discontinued all regular cars, except for one


    Last wali line thoda sedan comeback ka hint deti hai. Technically dekha jaaye so Ford ne sedans ko completely abandoned nahi kiya, Middle East abhi bhi ek mid size sedan on offer hai, jo 2026 Taurus ke name se aati hai. China mein same car Mondeo ke name se sell hoti hai, ye name pehle Europe ke Fusion ke liye use hota tha, whether size mein ye old Taurus ke more close ho.


    Profit ka issue bhi ek big reason tha jiske chalte Ford ne Fiesta or Focus discontinue kar di. September 2024 ke ek interview mein Farley ne bola tha ki ye cars kaafi customers ko pasand thi, but company in par profit nahi bana pa rahi thi. America mein last-gen Fiesta or Focus hatchbacks kabhi launch hi nahi hue. Globally, Fiesta 2023 mein or Focus 2025 mein discontinue ho gaye. Fourth gen Focus pehle wagon or sedan version mein bhi aati thi, but November 2025 mein uska production bhi end ho gaya. 


    Farley ne 2024 mein kaafi famous statement diya tha ki Ford ab 'boring cars' banana stop karke 'iconic vehicles' par focus karega. Is wajah se Focus jaise popular models ko thoda dark ya even villain ki tarah present kiya gaya, because unmein zyada profit nahi tha. Ab dekhna ye hai ki ye strategy rumored four door Mustang 'Mach 4' par bhi apply hogi ya nahi. 


    Ford aims to offer more affordable vehciles


    Meanwhile, Ford ke Executive Chair bill Ford bolte hai ki affordability pe focus sirf stripped down trims tak limited nahi hai. Unka kehna hai, 'Kya hum aise vehicles engineer kar sakte hai jo basic level par hi lower cost ho, so that uska benefit direct consumer tak pass ho sake? Or exactly yahi cheez pe hum work kar rahe hai.


    Hope ye hai ki is approach sedans or traditional cars ka comeback financially viable ho jaye.


    Conclusion


    America jaise SUV crazy market mein bhi buyers abhi tak sedans pasand karte hai. 2025 mein Toyota ne 3.16 lakh se zyada Camry  sell ki, jo last year se 2% zyada hai. Corolla ki sales bhi 6.5% increase around 2.48 lakh units ho gayi, haan ismein hatchbacks bhi count hai. Honda ne approx. 2.39 lakh Civic sell ki (thodi si sales downfall ke saath), or Accord ki sales 1.5 lakh ke around rahi, jo kaafi down rahi last year ke comparison mein.


    Volkswagen ki Jetta ki sales 24.4% drop ho gayi, but Golf ka sedan version (jisme proper trunk hota hai) phir bhi 54,291 units sell hue. Hyundai ki Elantra ka performance better raha or sales 8% increase ho kar 148,200 cars tak rise kar gayi. Nissan mein buyers ne kaafi Versas purchase kiye, 51,310 units,  jismein 20.5% growth hui. Sentra almost same level pe rahi with 152,578 units (sirf 0.1% ka drop), whereas Altima ki sales kaafi drop hui, around 18.1% or total 93,268 cars sell hui. (Note: ye sabhi sales figures Spain ke hai. Not India)


    Ye numbers clearly prove karte hai ki sedans ki demand abhi bhi strong hai. Ford ko bas ek cost effective or attractive product engineer karna hoga, customers khud hi purchase karenge. Abhi ke liye company apna profit competitors ke liye leave kar rahi hai.


    Experian ke according Q3 2025 mein average car payment around $748 ho gayi hai, so clearly market ko affordable options ki kaafi demand hai. And from above Kelley Blue Book ne bhi report kiya hai ki September 2025 mein average new car ki price first time $50,000 cross kar gayi.


    Four door Mustang lena sahi move hai ya nahi, ispe debate ho sakta hai, but ek baat clear hai, Ford ka proper, traditional cars ki taraf return hona ye kaafi time se overdue tha.
