Tesla's TERAFAB redefine global chip production

A massive AI semiconductor plant by Elon Musk aims to bring chip design, manufacturing, and testing under one roof powering EVs, robots, and space tech

Tesla's TERAFAB redefine global chip production
    Areeb Khan

Elon Musk recently ek new stage par aaye, like a tech guru, but apni usual style ke opposite, is baar unhone koi new electric car launch nahi ki. Tesla ke CEO ne TERAFAB announce kiya, jo unki new semiconductor factory hai, or wo bhi us time jab chip industry mein ek or possible crisis ka prediction ho raha hai, Iran war ki wajah se.

Yeh facilities ko $25 billion ka investment receive hoga, or goal hai every year 1 terawatt AI processing capacity generate karna.

Scale samajhne ke liye, Tesla ki Nevada wali first big gigafactory initially sirf $5 billion mein bani thi.

TERAFAB ek new joint venture ka name hai jisme 3 companies participate kar rahi hai, Tesla, SpaceX or xAI, jo South African entrepreneur ke under aati hai.

Simple bolun toh, yeh colaboration kaafi logical hai, because company ka main goal hai machinery ko merge karke AI hardware develop karna, wo bhi ekdum vertically integrated method se.

"Yeh history ka most epic chip manufacturing project hai," Musk ne Austin ke old Seaholm Power Plant mein stage par aate hi bola.

And honestly, baat sahi bhi hai, estimate yeh hai ki jab TERAFAB full capacity pe chalega, toh yeh world ki most biggest semiconductor foundry, Taiwan ki TSMC ke global production ka around 70% handle karega.

Yeh company abhi Tesla ki partners mein se ek hai, but Elon Musk or uski companies ka goal hai AI or automated driving leader banna. Isliye future mein unhe apni khud ki production facilities chahiye hongi, so that important chips khud bana sakein.

Isko achieve karne ke liye, TERAFAB promise karta hai ki wo semiconductor production ke every stage ko cover karega, jo electric cars, next-gen cars, autonomous cars, robots jaise Optimus, or SpaceX ke orbital satellites production mein kaafi important hote hai.

Elon Musk ne admit ki unki new company khud hi chips design karegi, lithography handle karegi, manufacturing karegi, memory produce karegi, advanced packing karegi or final testing bhi khud hi karegi.

Tesla ke AI5 chips already kaafi important ho chuke hai autonomous cars ke liye or un sab autonomous features ke liye jo company develop kar rahi hai (jaise Cybecab, FSD technology, etc.).

And jo sixth generation AI6 chips market mein introduce hone wale hai, woh mainly Optimus humanoid robot ke liye kaafi important honge, jiska development abhi bhi chal raha hai.

And yes, D3 chips ko toh mention hi nahi kiya, ye specially design kiye gaye hai un big batch ke orbital satellites ke liye jo SpaceX AI space mein launch karne wali hai. Yeh koi chhoti baat nahi hai, TERAFAB ki processing capacity ka around 80% sirf in AI satellites ke liye dedicate hoga jo space mein work karege.

Elon Musk or uski aerospace company ka plan hai ki low Earth orbit ko world ka biggest data center bana diya jaye. Soch ke dekho, AI teams apne AI workloads space mein run kar payengi, wo bhi Earth se cheap, because satellites ko constant solar energy milti rehti hai.
