New Tata Sierra Revealed | Design, Features, Launch Date & Expected Price (2025)
    Areeb Khan

Tata Sierra or Tata Estate 90s or early 2000s mein hamare roads par sabse cool cars mein count hoti thi. Agar aap sierra ya Tata Estate ke fan ho, toh yahan hai Top 5 cool facts jinke baare mein shayad hi aapko pata nahi hoga.

The Tata Sierra and Estate were not Tata's first effort at producing a vehicle

Tata motors ya phir TELCO (Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company) jaise us time bola jaata tha, 1986 mein ek chhoti car manufacture karne ka try kiya tha, woh bhi pure in-house. Yeh idea actually tab aaya jab TELCO ka Honda ke saath joint venture flop ho gaya. Phir unhone ek skunkworks-type secret project start kiya jisme do Honda Acty pickup trucks use kiye gaye (jo unhe state Trading Corporation ki auction se mile the) aur kuch spare parts ICRISAT ke stock se uthaye gaye.

Iske saath unhone Maruti 800 ke steering, suspension or brake components bhi off-the-shelf le liye. Or phir ek test mule banaya, jo ek British auto magzine mein print Honda city ke drawings or dimensions par based tha. Sirf 2 months mein woh mule chalne-worth bhi ban gaya.

But end mein yeh pura secret project shelve ho gaya. Uski jagah humein Tata Sierra or Tata Estate mile, or thodi der baad Tata Indica, jo India ki first fully indigenously developed car bani.

India's first SUV and Estate models were the Sierra and the Estate

Aaj ke time pe SUV ka craze literally out of control hai, but India ki first real SUV jo roads par aayi thi, woh thi Tata Sierra. Tata motors yahin nahi ruki, unka SUV lineup or strong hota gaya, jaise Tata Safari, Safari Storme, Sumo, Harrier, or Nexon. Or auto Expo mein humne dekha bhi ki Sierra phir se comeback kar rahi hai, is baar EV avatar mein.

On the other side, Tata Estate India ki first car thi estate body style ke saath. Tata ne is body style ko phir se try kiya tha Indigo Marina ke saath, but unfortunately, estate cars India mein kabhi popular nahi ho payi.

The design of the Tata Sierra and Estate was inspired by Ford and Mercedes

Jo cheez Sierra and Estate ko uss time itna cool banati thi, woh obviously unki styling thi. Aur yeh koi surprise nahi tha, because in dono cars ka design kaafi iconic vehicles ke inspired tha. Sierra ka Three-door look, rear ke glasshouse ke saath, basically Chevy Blazer or second-gen Ford Bronco SUVs se inspired tha. Estate ne toh direct Mercedes-Benz se inspiration li, Tata Estate ka design W124 estate jaisa lagta tha. Haan, woh Sierra jitna cool nahi dikhta tha, but uski wajah se cabin ke under space kaafi zyada milta hai.

Diplomats used the Tata Estate for the G15 Summit

1994 mein Delhi mein G15 Summit hua tha, aur uss time dignitaries ko le jaane ke liye Government ne Tata Estate ko apni official vehicle banaya tha. Yeh Tata Estates specially factory line se separate manufacture ki gayi thi ek special after-sales service team ne, sirf is event ke liye. Aur inko itni dedications se maintaine kiya jaata tha ki jaise Subbu sir (BVR Subbu), jo uss time Tata Motors mein the, mazak-mazak mein kehte hain ki "prayer ke saath" chalti thi.

Have you ever heard of the Tata Gurkha?

"Nahi nahi, iska Force Grukha se koi lena-dena nahi hai. Actually, yeh un kaafi saare names me se ek tha jinke under Tata Sierra ko global markets mein export kiya jaata tha. Inme Telco Sport or Tata Sport jaise names bhi include the. Aur export markets ki demand hi thi jisne Tata motors ko majboor kiya ki woh Sierra ka 4x4 wala version launch kare.

The story behind the new Tata Sierra

Tata Sierra ke reborn ki story khud Tata ke Global Design head Martin Uhlarik ne auto expo 2025 mein iske production near concept ko showcase karne par ek interview mein bataya. Unhone bahut interesting baat batai or kaha "Yeh sab actually 2019 mein mere office mein start hua tha. Aur yeh koi formal brief se start nahi hua tha, bas design department mein ek idea aaya ki ek truly iconic Tata product create karna chahiye.

Original Sierra ke baare mein mujhe hamesha lagta tha ki woh other Tata products se bilkul different stand-out karti thi. Main toh usse "living legend" kehta tha. Design bhi kaafi iconic tha, simple, strong B pillar, wraparound window sab kuch kaafi unique.

Uss time hum actually ek midsize SUV Design kar rahe the. Phir idea aaya ki isse Sierra bana dete hai. Aur phir 2020 Auto Expo mein humne iska FIrst concept showcase kiya. Us time jo reaction mila na, usne company ko convince kar diya ki haan, yeh proper Sierra ban sakti hai.

Pandemic bhi aa gaya beech mein or honestly, initially yeh EV ke liye plan bhi nahi thi. 2019-2020 mein EV trend bas start hi ho raha tha. But by 2022-23 hume laga ki product ko ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) bhi hona hoga or EV bhi. Humne concept 2 saal pehle dikhaya tha, aur ab yeh production car hai. Agar main concept version ko side-by-side rakh du, toh aapko zyada difference nahi lagega, sirf itna ki yeh waali ICE front-end ke saath hai, grill wagaira. EV version exactly concept hi dikhega.

Uhlarik ne aage bataya ki honestly jitna time laga, utni refinement aayi design mein. Kabhi-kabhi fast kaam accha hota hai, but kuch cheezein jaldi nahi ho sakti jaise (Quality, detailing, sweat-blood-tears).

Jab interview mein unse yeh question hua ki unka favourite part kaunsa tha iss car ko design karte time? toh unhone yeh bataya "For me, sabse important tha original Sierra ka woh iconic feel capture karna. Log bina Tata badge dekhe samajh jaaye ki yeh Sierra hai, bas dekhte hi identify ho jaye. Yeh idea Tata ke recent design mein bhi reflect hota hai.

Iske baad unse pucha gaya ki kya jab aap kisi bhi project ka blueprint lekar discussion karte hai toh kya aap consciously sochte hai ki Tata vehicles crowd se stand-out karein? Uhlarik ne kaha "Definitely. Tata every product brand ki story ko define karta hai, chahe wo Sierra ho, Nexon ho, Punch ho ya Tata motors overall. Designers basically storytellers hote hai, bas surface or technology se story sunate hai."

Car ka interior bhi utna hi important hai. Window area, daylight. Sab ensure karta hai car claustrophobic na lage, same opne or adventurous feel ho, jaise original Sierra deti thi. But saath hi high-tech or high-quality bhi lage.

Martin Uhlarik jab puccha gaya ki Tata motors join karne ke baad unka favourite Design kaunsa hai. Toh unhone kaha" Sierra without a doubt because yeh ek causal conversion se start hua tha, koi brief nahi tha. Hum literally is idea ke liye fight karte rahe passion se. Final production design Pune studio ne deliver kiya or it's very important, because main ek foreigner hoon. India ke logon ki Sierra se emotional attachment hai, Unhone aapne childhood days mein dekhi hai, kisi uncle ke paas thi, road par dekhi hogi, poster lagaya hoga. That emotional memory hi design ki integrity ko drive karti thi.

jab unse yeh pucha gaya ki Sierra India ke liye emotional Product hai, aur ab new avatar mein, electric form dekhna aur bhi exciting hai. EV vs ICE design karne ka difference kya hota hai? Toh unhone yeh bola "Honestly, mere liye koi major difference nahi hota. Main powertrain agnostic hoon-ICE ho, EV ho, CNG ho. Product ki story main focus hota hai. Platform/Package ko adapt hona padta hai, but design compromise nahi hona chahiye.

Saath hi Saath unhone Industry mein change hote car design ke trend ke baare mein bhi baat karte hai aur kehte hai "Pehle designers ko ek fixed engineering package mil jata tha or bolte the "isko bas accha bana do". Par ab design poori process ka part hai, proportions, stance, safety, ergonomics. Sab design ke inputs se set hota hai. Pehle hum full-size proportion model banate hai, then ergonomic model, aur phir styling- jo basically wrapping paper hoti hai, equal important.

Jab unse India ke EV adoption ke baare mein pucha gaya toh unhone kaha "Haan, definitely. Sales numbers clearly dikhate hai. Punch toh highest selling thi, ICE + EV + CNG overall. Aur haan, design vehicle ki sales mein bahut bada role play karta hai.

Exterior Design of the New Tata Sierra

Ek boxy silhouette hai, jisme simple or modern elements ka perfect mix milta hai

Yeh tak ki baat toh Tata Sierra ke reborn or usse related challenges ki jo iss car ko sketch board se reality tak lane mein hue. Now let's talk about its exterior design, Tata Sierra ka design proper boxy look deta hai. Front mein ek contrasting gloss-black panel diya gaya hai jisme connected LED Drls, projector LED headlights or Tata ka logo cleanly integrate kiya hua hai. Bumper bhi kaafi rugged feel dete hai with gloss-black accent or ek faux silver skid plate. Dono sides par pixel-style LED fog lamps lage hue hai, jo look ko clean or sophisticated bana dete hai.

Original Sierra jaisi curved glass windows toh nahi milti, but B or C pillar ke beech ka blacked-out section almost wahi feel de deta hai. Baaki highlights mein 19-inch alloys, wheel arches or doors par black body cladding, black ORVMs, aur black roof rails shamil hai- jo iski bold or contemporary stance ko or strong banate hai.

New engine options for Tata Sierra

Tata Motors ne 2 new 1.5L engines ka debut kar diya hai.

Yehi engine 9 December ko bigger models Tata Harrier or Tata Safari mein bhi debut karega. Iska Power output approx. 170hp or 280Nm hoga, aur yeh manual or automatic dono transmissions ke saath offer kiya jayega.

Yeh Sierra ke liye akela new engine nahi hai. Tata ek 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine bhi offer karegi, jaise pehle reports mein bataya gaya tha. Iss engine ki wajah se Tata Motors Sierra ko kaafi aggressive pricing ke saath launch kar paayegi.
